Just because something is about to be publicly released doesn't mean it won't show up on a torrent tracker a little early.Both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 - which are set to be downloaded right from Microsoft by the first 2.5 million people that pounce on the links - have already appeared on major torrent sites like Pirate Bay.The torrents are labeled as .Technet.TAP.700. As I mentioned late last night, MSDN and Technet subscribers had early access to the ISO files. It's been almost 17 months to the day since Apple last made significant (paid) updates to their flagship iWork productivity suite, but the company has announced that iWork 09 is now available.All three iWork applications have seen updates, and Apple has also announced an iWork.com Public Beta allowing users to view and comment on iWork documents.Among the changes to the desktop applications, Keynote allows you to animate objects automatically, whilst the Smart Move option allows you to slickly animate objects between slides. Pages, the iWork word processor, now ships with a built in 'Full Screen' mode for full-focus writing, and outline mode for project organization. There's also another 40 templates for your documents in this new version. My four year old son (not me, of course) can't get enough of the monochrome greatness that is our collection of old Gameboy cartridges. The Gameboy, however, has taken a dirt nap and he's had to learn to play them in VirtualBoy on my laptop.What about newer games? What if your DS happened to get crushed under a truck tire and you were left with a pile of games you couldn't play?The iDeaS emulator's latest version would be one solution. With the release of v1.0.2.8 frame rates have improved greatly and several bugs have been fixed that make the emu extremely usable.Of the half dozen roms I tested (all of which I own, of course), I didn't note any major issues. Flycast has announced major upgrades to their mobile media streaming application. T-Mobile users will be excited to learn that it's now available for the G1 Android handset. The desktop application (built on the Adobe Air platform) has also been enhanced.Flycast now features 1,000 channels and 300 additional "personalized" channels. A new partnership with AccuWeather brings enhanced weather reports, and you can now log in using your Facebook credentials if you don't want to sign up for a Flycast account."Streamshifting" has also been added, a feature which allows users to tune in to a full broadcast at any point - ensuring that you don't miss any of the good parts.I was particularly thrilled to find out that, yes, the Flycast service works in Canada. Microsoft has entered the "additional content from a barcode" game, though similar apps like Scanlife have been available for the iPhone for quite some time. Today the beta release of Microsoft Tag - which the company says "links real life with the digital world" - hit the web.The Silverlight demo and images illustrate possible applications, from watching a movie trailer after snapping the code from a poster to browsing for a band's CD releases by clicking a concert flyer. This one really takes me back. As soon as I saw the opening screen, I could picture a dozen people crammed into my dorm room watching my roommate and I deathmatch over our awesome null modem cable.Yes, Doom 1 has been recompiled in Flash from the original source. It plays just like I remembered the original, and could definitely become a giant Time Waster for anyone else who was hooked on Doom when it was first released.Playing through a few levels almost made me forget how terrible the movie was (sorry, Dwayne).There's no music, but I usually had that shut off and listened to my Discman. All the old cheat codes work as well: in case you've forgotten, IDDQD activates "degreelessness" and IDKFA will enable all weapons, keys, and ammo, and boost your armor to 200%.
