A critical security flaw has been found in the Windows, here's a summary from AusCert:
"
This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in the
Server service. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if
an affected system received a specially crafted RPC request. On Microsoft
Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems, an attacker
could exploit this vulnerability without authentication to run arbitrary
code. It is possible that this vulnerability could be used in the
crafting of a wormable exploit. Firewall best practices and standard
default firewall configurations can help protect network resources from
attacks that originate outside the enterprise perimeter.
This security update is rated Critical for all supported editions of
Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and rated
Important for all supported editions of Windows Vista and Windows Server
2008.

It's important that ALL machines are patched and ideally, ports 139 and 445 blocked at your firewall.
An exploit already exists that has the potential to be quite nasty (it grabs details from your machine and sends them to a number of websites) and I'm sure more worms and exploits based on this flaw will appear over the next few weeks.
You can discuss this flaw in our forums here.
Comments (0) | Last Edited: 25 October 2008 Firefox 3 Released
For those that haven't updated yet, Firefox 3 has now been officially released. If you're an existing Firefox user, there have been over 15,000 improvements packed into this release. Personally I've noticed a big difference in the speed of the browser and the memory handling, well worth the upgrade.
Certainly there are also now more reasons than ever if you're still using Internet Explorer, especially when consider the security aspects.

Firefox is a well known of course for being a fast and innovative web
browser but certainly far from perfect. Thankfully because it has been
specifically written to allow extensions, it can be tweaked to suit
individual requirements much better.
Read the article to find out some of my favourite extensions!

After what was seemingly like a VHS vs Betamax type war, it appears Blu-ray has emerged as the winner of the next generation DVD formats. Toshiba has announced that it will be discontinuing it's HD-DVD business. As the creators of HD-DVD it means that the format is now dead.
As long as you haven't started a HD-DVD collection, this is a good start for consumers. Now you only have one format to worry about instead of two standards trying to fight each other. Unfortunately none of this would have occurred if the big companies would talk to each other and co-develop the standards instead of being completely profit driven.
Further discussion and information is available in our forum thread here .

Just a quick update, Beta 3 has now been released for Firefox 3.
Release notes: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b3/releasenotes/
While most of the changes in Beta 3 are only tweaks and minor enhancements, it's also a good indication how well it's performing so far.
You can download it and try it for yourself here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html
