The most notable are that it runs tabbed windows under separate processes so if a webpage crashes it doesn't take down the entire browser -- and a more powerful JavaScript engine dubbed V8. They are making the code open source and inviting the community to get involved in changing the web as we know it. You can check out some of the features of the browser or read up on why Google decided to write a web browser (excerpt below). Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today's complex web applications much better . By keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers. Still, as much as I love Google's innovation and seemingly charitable contributions to the internet.. I still view the company's offerings with a skeptical eye. If Mozilla had just released a Firefox version that ran separate processes for each tab, I wouldn't even blink at the chance to download the new browser. With Google, there always seems to be some "catch" and since they are known for data mining the catch is usually loss of privacy. Essentially you are voluntarily allowing Google to spy on your usage habits any time you use their search engine, desktop search, toolbar, web browser, mail service, etc. It's in the terms of service and is totally acceptable since you are agreeing that in using their product(s) they can collect information. Google just keeps finding new ways of collecting more information from us. Don't get me wrong, I think Google's a great company and has seriously helped shape the web over their first 10 years and they'll continue to do so. But I'm not going to use a Google phone with a Google Mobile OS to check my Google Mail.. and go home to search Google with a Google Web Browser and download files for Google Desktop to index, all while not thinking about my lack of privacy and data being mined by a single company. That being said, I am hoping some of Google's ideas are adopted by the greater good and we start seeing browsers pay more attention to where the web is going with the blend of web applications and desktop applications. You can be certain that if Google's Chrome Browser is adopted as quickly as Firefox was, the competition will listen.Posted Sep 5th, 2008 7:47 AM by AceBHoundRead More  |  0 commentsAsus Eee Box B202 $349 Desktop ReviewHotHardware reviews the Asus Eee Box B202 Desktop System, a small form-factor desktop computer that uses the Atom processor and has very minimal power requirements. The PC is small and stylish enough to be displayed at home on the counter or tucked away in a home theater setup. Asus has been very successful with their Eee line of ultra-portable laptops, and the Asus Eee Box is certainly a contender for applications where power consumption and small form-factor are primary considerations.Posted Aug 6th, 2008 8:57 PM by AceBHoundRead More  |  0 commentsKingston Memory Warranty - Thumbs Up!I'm no stranger to failing memory in computer systems, but I typically hope to catch any memory errors within the first few weeks of the memory purchase. Unfortunately, you can't always diagnose a memory issue in that time-frame and sometimes a memory issue might not surface for a few months or years even. To my dismay, about 6-months after purchasing Kingston memory, it began failing in a desktop computer. Luckily for me the story didn't end there. Kingston Technology is one of those companies that stands out from the rest in that it offers a lifetime warranty on memory. The return process couldn't have been easier. I completed an RMA request on the Kingston Technology website. Within a few days the request was approved and I was sent an RMA number and a page to print & bring to a Fedex Shipping Location so they could process a shipping label. Kingston promptly shipped the new memory out via 2-day Fedex. I am very impressed with Kingston's Warranty Policy and will definitely be buying Kingston next time I purchase memory!Posted Aug 5th, 2008 7:23 PM by AceBHoundRead More  |  0 commentsNext Xbox 360 Price Cut - $199.99?There have been lots of rumors lately about a possible price cut on Microsoft's Xbox 360 console coming early-September. Further evidence has just surfaced in-way of an unknown store inventory screen suggesting a price drop to $199.99 on September 7 for the Xbox 360 Arcade Core System. While it is still considered speculation, this evidence would support the recent price drop rumors. Microsoft would do well to offer the console at this price since they could compete with the cheaper Nintendo Wii and Playstation 2 systems. If this is a hint of what's to come for console price drops this Christmas season, I can't wait!Posted Aug 3rd, 2008 8:29 PM by AceBHoundRead More  |  0 commentsAmazon's Kindle Sales Reach 240,000 since NovemberIt looks like there's a good chance that Amazon's Kindle sales have exceeded analyst's expectations since its launch. A source close to Amazon has estimated sales at around 240,000 units since Amazon began offering the Kindle on its site last November. Scott Devitt, an analyst at Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., predicts that Amazon is on track to sell 500,000 to 750,000 more Kindles over the next four quarters (including this one). He estimates that Kindle owners will buy an additional $120 to $150 worth of books and other content for each device, bringing the total revenues over that time period to somewhere between $225 million and $355 million. Based on that, he values the Kindle as a $1 billion business for Amazon. The Kindle seems like a really neat device, especially for business commuters who don't have the room to lug around a bunch of books.. but at $360 it's hard for many consumers to justify. Most of the electronic book downloads aren't much cheaper than the physical book -- and there's something to be said to having a physical book versus straining your eyes looking at a a screen, regardless of how high the resolution or what improvements have been made for readability. Still, the sales numbers show that there is more than enough interest in the product and we can hopefully look forward to more improvements and a cheaper Kindle/book cost in the future.Posted Aug 2nd, 2008 12:29 PM by AceBHoundRead More  |  0 commentsPrevious Topics07-19-2008 New Review: P3 International Kill-A-Watt P4460 Electricity Usage Monitor04-06-2008 I hate CD copy protection04-02-2008 Updates on counterfeit Adobe Photoshop CS303-02-2008 Beware of Illegal Adobe Photoshop CS3 Software on Amazon Marketplace02-01-2008 New Review: TomTom One 3rd Edition GPS01-18-2008 Wii Alerts Help You Find A WiiView All News Techdose Articles Consumer Alert: Bootleg Software on Amazon MarketplaceWatch out for professional looking bootleg software on Amazon Marketplace and eBay. Expired domains could mean big security concerns if you don't keep track of your personal accounts online. If You Build It, They Will Come.. Right? You just purchased a domain, built a website or had a web development company create it for you. Your website looks great. After submitting your site to the major search engines and performing some general SEO, you're ready to sit back & reap the rewards. You wait months, but nothing happens. What went wrong?
