The Bulleted Edition
Ugh, I'm running a few minutes
hours late
again, so let's hop on in and see what we can find.
Stop on by
Tech Fragments and
check out the new and innovative
Macbook Wheel -- This is well worth the watch, apple fan or not.
The
Hardware Canucks
are showing off the
EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm Superclocked Edition this morning.
They're also taking a look at the
EVGA X58 SLI LGA 1366 Motherboard.
Tweak Town calls
next as they show off the
Kingston Triple Channel 1333MHz 6GB Memory Kit.
They're also having a go at the
Leadtek WinFast 9800 GTX+ 512MB Card.
Let's latch on to the video card theme
for a couple more posts here and check out the Sapphire
Toxic HD 4870 1GB DDR5 over at
Overclocker's
Online.
Keeping it going are the
Elite Bastards
with a look at the same
Sapphire Toxic HD 4870.
Bit-Tech also has a
two-fer for us this morning as they take a look first at the
Lian Li PC-888. This is one of the strangest looking cases I've
ever seen.
Also, check out their review of the
Hiper Type R II 680W PSU.
Speaking of PSU's, stop on in by
Pure Overclock
and check out the
AeroCool Horsepower 650W.
PC Stats keeps
things rolling for us with their go at the
ECS A780GM-A AMD Motherboard.
OC Mod Shop is
showing off the
NZXT Tempest Gamer Case.
We've got some coolers to wrap things up
for us.

First
Edition
Let's jump right into it today.
First up is another shot at the crown
or is it? The
EVGA X58 3X SLI Motherboard makes a good showing at the
Hard|OCP.
So I'm left
feeling kind of "meh" when it comes to the EVGA X58 3X SLI. .It is by no
means a bad piece of hardware or a bad choice but given that it is about
the same price as the outstanding Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and close to the
price of the ASUS P6T Deluxe, (which is also an excellent board.) I just
can't recommend this board as it stands today.
The latest in the 9xxx generation
coolers from Zalman. See what
Big Bruin has to
say about the
Zalman CNPS9900 LED CPU Cooler.
The CNPS9900 LED
CPU cooler features the familiar look of a Zalman product, with a
variety of innovations and refinements that make it stand out over
models from previous generations in the CNPS (Computer Noise Prevention
System) product line. A 120mm fan is located in between two rings of
thin copper fins that dissipate the processor's heat thanks to three
heatpipe loops.
Overclock3D has
a new review posted on
Gigabyte's EX58-UD5 X58 Motherboard.
The EX58-UD5 is
a very complete product pushing all the right buttons from its
aesthetics through to the scores it made in our suite of benchmarks.
Best of all were its overclocking abilities where it out paced both the
MSI Platinum and P6T Deluxe by some margin. Add to this both CrossfireX
and true Tri-SLI capabilities at a cost cheaper than its competitors and
Gigabyte have seemingly done the impossible.
MSI Radeon HD 4830 512MB OC Edition action by the pros over at
Tweaktown.
The HD 4830 is the latest
card to enter the HD 4800 series line-up and is the lowest of the bunch.
The thing is, though, I really do wonder how much lower it is than the
HD 4850, which is one of the best valued cards on the market to date.
A hot HD4870 getting you down?
Bjorn3D reviews the
latest water block for my fav card, the
Koolance VID-487 GPU Water Block.
The Koolance
VID-487 did get beat out slightly by the Swiftech MCW60 by a degree or
two here and there, but that’s nothing to complain about when you think
about what the entire block is cooling and how well it does this. For
example, under air cooling or water cooling with the Swiftech MCW60, the
voltage regulators got extremely hot, 100°C or better under max load at
any sort of overclock. With the Koolance VID-487, I was hitting 60°C on
the voltage regulators at the cards maximum overclock.
Naming a product in line with its
purpose is what I like.
NZXT Whisper Case reviewage by the
TechPowerUp
folks.
The NZXT Whisper aims to
give you the basis for silent computing with sound dampening all around
the interior of the chassis. A large compartment design with the
possibility of an eATX motherboard and a heavy duty front door, make for
an interesting case.
Power supplies en masse.

Think Computers.
Chill Virtually Silent 700w PSU review on Technic3D.
Seasonic's M12D 850w PSU review at bit-tech.
Xigmatek NRP-PC501 500w PSU review at JonnyGURU.
Check out this one on the
Coolink GFXChilla VGA Cooler for the... I'm not sure what but from
the looks of it, perhaps it's a universal mount.
OCModShop has
some pics (just not complete specs) in their review here.
How much more
proof does one need? The aftermarket GFXChilla managed to drop the idle
temperature with 11 degrees C, and the load by and astonishing 40
degrees Celsius. Big thumbs up for Coolink there.
Hardware Bistro
has some coverage of the bargain priced
NorthQ Siberia Tiger Water Cooling Kit.
After some
introduction and testing of NorthQ Siberian Tiger water cooling kit, we
found that this water cooling kit is not only comes with great features
such as maintenance-less, low risk, easy setup and etc, but it also
performs quite well too.
The same unit but with double fans and
capacity styled the
NorthQ Siberia Tiger II Water Cooling Kit is reviewed over at
Driver Heaven.
The NorthQ
Siberian Tiger II is a competent and simple water cooling solution,
designed for people who want better performance than an air cooler but
don't want to bother with a DIY water cooling kit. That said, the dual
radiator and the short tubing force the user to either buy a case with
two 120mm fans at the rear or top side of the case, or modify their own
case to fit the radiator which ruins the whole 'easy to install' part.
The rest of the story.

Back at it
Edition
Today is the day that most everyone goes back to school or work from a
long holiday break. Keep your chin up, Summer will be here before
you know it and it'll be vacation time again.
On another note, Congrats go out to John Fuller for winning our most
recent prize drawing. We'll be getting John's prizes right out to
him directly from the lofts of the Penthouse Labs. Thanks to
everyone who entered.
Let's start our news day off with the
pros from Anandtech
and the
Thermaltake Spedo Case.
There are plenty of people that
love fancy cases with all sorts of features, even if some aren't
actually necessary. In our opinion a case doesn't need all of the extra
fluff and the Thermaltake Spedo has a case of feature overkill, but
there are surely people out there who will love the appearance and
design.
Head over to the
OCIA and see what they
think about the
WinFast PX9800 GTX+ Leadtek Limited
VGA Card.
While the GTX 260/280 cards have taken over
nVidia's top slots for video card gaming hardware, their 9 series
continues to flush out the bulk of their product lineup, and the 9800
GTX+ reigns as top dog among the 9 series family. The WinFast PX9800
GTX+ Leadtek Limited appears to have identical specs to their standard
PX9800 GTX+ with the only difference being that of a slightly different
cooler face and bundled game selection.
BCC Hardware
has a piece up on two ASRock motherboards aptly titled,
ASRock A780GXE vs AOD790GX - Phenom Battle.
While the A780GXE
is based on the 780G Northbridge and HD3200 graphics chipset, the
AOD790GX is based on the newer 790GX Northbridge chipset and HD3300
graphics chipset. The 790GX board also sports the AMD SB750 chipset
that is said to allow greater overclocking on the Phenom processor. In
our tests the board certainly does overclock the Phenom better, but only
when not using the Advanced Clock
Control setting that is supposed to yield all the extra performance.
Nano fans? See
Bjorn3D for the
review of the
Nonaoxia Nano Fans. Just regular fans but UV yellow from the
looks of em' with one exception...
If you read the
last image on the previous page and have seen that Nanoxia listed these
fans as waterproof, then you're on the right track. Yes, these fans will
be tested in water. It states that, not only on their websites and
across the web, but it is also printed on their packaging. Well, I just
would not be doing my job if I did not test the full capability of these
fans, now would I? This portion is all about the "Water Proofing" of
these fans.
Still at Bjorn's place is another
review but with this one covering the
Cooler Master Aquagate Max H2O Kit.
NZXT Guardian 921 Case action up at
TechPowerUp.
The Guardian 921 is an
interesting looking chassis, featuring a "shield" as a door and a "head"
raised above the rest of the case with a temperature LCD screen.
Included with the case are three temperature sensors that can be placed
at important locations that need to be monitored.
Another case from the long remembered
ATCS lineup.
Inside Hardware has a go at the
Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case.
Cooler Master
ATCS 840 is one big (spacious), quiet, perfectly organized chassis.
Simply put: InsideHW Editor’s Choice. Price tag around 250€ might seem
high at first sight but when you take a better look, you will conclude
that it is not that much for this kind of chassis. What’s more Cooler
Master ATCS 840 chassis is designed for most demanding users.
Hawking HWRN1A Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Router anyone?
Still using one of those older 802.11G or even
802.11b routers? As demand for networking bandwidth increases, 802.11N
is becoming more popular. Today we’ll be looking at one such upgrade
option offered by well-known networking provider, Hawking Technology:
the Hawking HWRN1A Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Router. Have they finally made
wireless routers plug-in-play, or will you need to mess around a bunch
of connection settings? We’re here to answer that question in this
review.
Definitely some of the coolest looking flash drive designs I've seen
before.
Virtual-Hideout has a sample with one, the
PromoLocker Custom VH USB Drive.
This combination lanyard and USB flash drive is
ideal for any tradeshow go-er! This cloth lanyard has a polished steel
ID badge holder with a hidden USB flash drive in the clip. WOW! You
can choose between 5 standard lanyard colors OR custom match to any PMS
color you like!
Thermaltake Vi-On HDD Enclosure review posted by Pure Overclock.
Wrapping our news day up is the
Thecus N4100 Pro NAS review over at
Overclockers
Online.
The N4100 Pro rings in at about $400 dollars,
which in the world of network attached storage, falls into the lower
range of things, compared its more expensive counterpart, the N4100 Pro
packs quite a punch. For all this though, unfortunately this unit too
shares the same flaws as the N5200 Pro. Documentation included with the
unit is sparse, and the web interface could definitely use some work.
