"Let's face it: Most of the photos populating the amateur shutterbug's camera are, shall we say, less than ready for a gallery viewing. There are the dim ones, the washed out ones, and even the ones with a thumb over the lens. Don't forget our old favorites either: The open mouth, the pinched face and the demonic red-eye. But the good news is that it doesn't have to be that way forever. In fact, if you follow just a few simple tips, you can soon be shooting the type of photos guaranteed to put a smile on any viewer's face. Here are ten easy, everyday hints to help you get started snapping like the pros:"   Posted by jim on Wednesday, January 07 @ 21:20:09 PST (1 reads)   Tweaknews Two For OneRazer Moray Headphones "The Moray didn't convince me to toss aside my set of over-the-ear headphones, but for laptop gamers or anyone who uses a portable music device this is a great step up in quality from the included ear buds. The best part is they carry a reasonable price tag." In Win Matrix m-ATX Case "The pearl white/black color scheme is refreshing and the multiple doors maintain a uniform look while providing easy access to the external drives and ports. I'm also impressed with the cooling scheme In Win uses here. It's no mean feat to cool a chassis this small and crowded, but the Matrix does a good job in this respect, all the while keeping noise to a minimum."   Posted by jim on Wednesday, January 07 @ 20:01:49 PST (1 reads)   Bit-tech Two For OneHiper Type R II 680W PS "This would probably suit many systems our readers build: something like an overclocked dual or even quad core, single graphics card and a couple of hard drives, then this PSU should fit perfectly - you'll easily be hitting 50 percent load matching its peak efficiency and very quiet running. We have seen "more" in terms of other 600-700W models - in full load efficiency and with more PCI-Express cables (and modular options), but the Hiper Type R II 680W is still a pretty damn solid buy." AMD Athlon Neo Platform "AMD has to work hard to get partners to deliver cheap Yukon-based products to market faster than April, because that is far too late for this product. By that time, we are edging into Q2 and shouldn't we already be expecting the Congo dual core/780G part at that time? Why would we buy the HP? We just can't see a reason when there is a better featured version just around the corner."   Posted by jim on Wednesday, January 07 @ 12:09:32 PST (4 reads)   Driver Heaven Two For OneNorthQ Siberian Tiger II Water Cooler "Today we have the opportunity to review another product from NorthQ, a Danish company who have been aggressively expanding the last several months. Not long ago we had a look at the Siberian Tiger, a compact water cooling solution designed to narrow the chasm between air coolers and more complex DIY water cooling solutions. It was a pre-assembled, easy to install and maintenance free water cooling product." GTR Revolution PC "We have looked at other GTR games before in the past and conclusions state that Simbin are one of the greatest developers of racing games on the PC platform. Combined with the RACE series they have proven to be class leading titles and today we are taking a look at the latest expansion to RACE 08, GTR Evolution."   Posted by jim on Wednesday, January 07 @ 11:59:29 PST (4 reads)   Tweaktown Two For OneKingston Triple Channel 1333MHz 6GB Kit "Many companies have already jumped in with triple channel kits for Core i7 and so far we have reviewed about five different kits. Today we are adding another to the list of oncoming tri-channel kits. Kingston, a long time partner in memory has shot us their latest memory kit comprising of three DDR3 1333MHz memory modules with 2GB density per module; a total of 6GB. We will today pit it against our Corsair 6GB benchmark modules to see just how well Kingston’s memory fairs." Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm CPU Cooler "What we have with us today is the Vigor Monsoon III LT, Vigor’s first CPU cooler without a TEC to share the Monsoon name. Previously Vigor’s lineup was the Monsoon II and the Monsoon II Lite, both using a TEC plate to aid in how they cooled. The Monsoon III LT is an eye catching design and the obvious use of dual fans is a plus to getting more airflow. First impressions of this cooler are that it looks nice in all-black attire and it seems up to the task of keeping the newer over clocked CPU’s within healthy operating temperatures."   Posted by jim on Tuesday, January 06 @ 17:00:44 PST (4 reads)   OCModshop Two For OneNZXT Tempest Case "Unfortunately, the hardware specifically targeted towards gamers is also very expensive. An elite PC Gaming Case (chassis or enclosure) has many more features than your standard office PC. For one, many include built-in support for watercooling, and others provide easy access to USB and audio ports.... and of course should have a window to show off all of your LEDs, VFDs, CCFDs, and all the other acronymns you have inside." Coolink GFXChilla VGA Heatsink "I'm always looking for the right balance between proper cooling and noise output. Remember the old cases and cpu coolers you used to get that where so loud it was plain stupid, luckily things have gone a long way and we have abandoned 40/60mm screamer fans (remember the old Deltas? ) but today still I have to say the loudest component in my PC is my video card."   Posted by jim on Tuesday, January 06 @ 16:54:23 PST (1 reads)   Bjorn3D Two For OneKoolance VID-487 GPU Water Block "As a matter of fact, my first ever video card water block was from Koolance many years ago. One of the main reasons I stopped using them back then is that they were primarily small tube low flow systems and I had moved on to massive big tube custom built high flow systems. But here in the past year or so, Koolance has developed products that work well with both types of water cooling loops. So I’m really looking forward to seeing just how well their block will stand up to one of the industries' favorites, the Swiftech MCW60, as well as Sapphire's own high-end air cooler, the Vapor-X." Cooler Master Stacker 832 SE Case "Cooler Master has been known for filling the market with top notch enclosures, power supplies and general PC accessories. There isn’t really a trend when it comes down to desktop department. However, it’s safe to say geeks favor a clean type design with a lot of functionality rather than flashy and scary looking “things” up on their desks. If you are into Japanese cars, it’s called JDM style (Japanese Domestic Market). Although used in conjunction with automotive industry, this term describes functionality and unique style (the two have to go together)."   Posted by jim on Tuesday, January 06 @ 08:39:24 PST (3 reads)   Bigbruin Two For OneASUS Xonar D1 PCI Sound Card "The ASUS Xonar D1 is a 7.1 channel solution designed to fit into full sized or low profile systems, and offers exceptional audio in 3D games and home theater applications. If you are serious enough about sound to realize that the onboard solution just isn't cutting it, the Xonar D1 is worth considering. It offers great sound, appealing features, and it won't break the bank." Zalman CNPS9900 LED CPU Cooler "The CNPS9900 LED CPU cooler features the familiar look of a Zalman product, with a variety of innovations and refinements that make it stand out over models from previous generations in the CNPS (Computer Noise Prevention System) product line. A 120mm fan is located in between two rings of thin copper fins that dissipate the processor's heat thanks to three heatpipe loops."   Posted by jim on Monday, January 05 @ 20:20:27 PST (3 reads)   Mid-End Motherboard RoundupThis one is hard to categorize, it is not so much of a review, as a info article about many of the mid end AMD MB solutions. "A year ago we started a series of articles about the motherboards market. The first article was devoted to the selection of Mid-End products. A year has passed, and it's apparently high time to draw new conclusions."   Posted by jim on Monday, January 05 @ 19:02:17 PST (4 reads)   BCChardware Two For OneA780GXE/128M vs. AOD790GX/128M MB "If I'd have to pick a winner between the two, I'd go with the AOD790GX/128M motherboard. Overall it offers better performance, better overclocking, better audio quality and a little more integrated GPU power from the HD3300 GPU. Both boards support upcoming AM3 CPUs and should provide years of service. . ." Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 LP Cooler "Now I'm almost embarrassed to tell you that all my warnings about being careful and not applying too much pressure comes from first-hand experience. Yup, I pushed a little too hard and snapped the clip right in half. The bad part about snapping the clip in half is that your cooler is pretty much screwed and one corner isn't going to properly mount."   Posted by jim on Monday, January 05 @ 18:52:41 PST (5 reads)   Madshrimps Two For OneDFI LanParty DK 790GX-M2RS MB "DFI has taken the latest AMD 790GX chipset and loaded it on a flashy motherboard fitted with custom cooling and fully fleshed out BIOS which allows you to tweak almost every aspect of the AM2+ platform. Let us find out if the engineers at DFI were able to extract more performance from the 790GX chipset compared to the competition." Western Digital Scorpio Black HD "We take a closer look at a speedy laptop 2.5inch hard drive from Western Digital. Spinning at 7200rpm and with 16mb cache onboard it promises to be quite speedy. While not very cheap it does beat new SSD devices by a large margin, 320Gb of fast compact storage for your laptop? Let us put it to the test."   Posted by jim on Sunday, January 04 @ 19:39:26 PST (5 reads)   Computer Appearance Increasingly More Important"PC users are increasingly interested in what's on the outside as much as what's on the inside. And as the market shifts to laptops from desktops, computers are more portable and hence more visible, making them as much of a design statement as a purse or a pair of shoes. Richard Shim, a PC analyst with IDC, said it's all part of a larger trend of "hyper-specialization" in notebooks."   Posted by jim on Sunday, January 04 @ 12:14:16 PST (8 reads)   Xtra XtraThecus N4100 Pro NAS @ OCOnline NZXT Guardian 921 Case @ Techpowerup End War Xbox 360 @ Gamepyre NZXT Tempest Black Case @ Motherboards SilverStone Fortress FT01 Case @ HWS OCZ Gladiator Max CPU Cooler @ PO GELID Wing 12 120mm Fan FL Crash Commando PS3 @ Gamingheaven   Posted by jim on Sunday, January 04 @ 12:07:10 PST (5 reads)   Bit-tech Two For OneHardware Awards 2008 "These limitations prevented us from making Intel’s Atom processor our innovation of the year and instead that title fell to the chip behind the hugely successful Radeon HD 4800 series. RV770 is, quite frankly, the best thing that has happened to the graphics industry since Nvidia launched G80 and what made it all the more impressive was the fact it was developed while AMD was getting its ass handed to it by G80." Top Console Games 2008 "Part platformer, part content creation tool, LittleBigPlanet comes from a group of ex-Lionhead developers who sought to bring their unique sense of humour to the PlayStation 3. While a good part of the game is actually built as a frustratingly difficult 2D platformer, the core part of LittleBigPlanet is actually a complex series of tools that let players make their own levels and experiments. Think Garry’s Mod for consoles."   Posted by jim on Saturday, January 03 @ 19:43:43 PST (3 reads)   Get Your Converter-Box Now"The Feb. 17 transition from analog to digital television broadcasts looms and as many as 8 million households are still unprepared, but the government program that subsidizes crucial TV converter boxes is about to run out of money. People who still rely on analog TV sets to pick up over-the-air signals — whether it is through rabbit-ear aerials on TVs or antennas on the roof — will see their screens go dark when the changeover happens. To avoid that, those people have to switch to cable or satellite TV, buy a television set with a digital tuner or buy a converter box that can translate digital signals from the airwaves into analog."   Posted by jim on Saturday, January 03 @ 05:51:43 PST (7 reads)   Bjorn3D Two For OneKingston HyperX TC DDR3 1600 "Every once in a while two of the titans in memory manufacturing produce a kit that could almost be twin brothers on paper. When that happens it's that rare time when we can do an SPD shootout. By that we mean we can compare two kits that will run at the same speed with the same timings against one another with a level playing field. In this case a 6 GB kit of Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 and a kit of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600. In all fairness to the Corsair Dominator kit the specified timings are 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v and the Kingston kit is rated to run at 8-8-8-20 1.65v so there is that minor difference in the kits." SilenX IXG-80HA2 & IXG-3F2 "Video card manufacturers usually only use the bare minimum on cooling solutions for the cards that they sell. For many of us, when we buy a new CPU, we normally purchase an after market cooler for them because we know that the standard cooler just does not cut it when it comes to cooling. With this being said, we can not expect a standard cooler to handle today's video cards. It is also rare to find a GPU cooler that fits both Nvidia's 2xxGTX's and ATI's HD48xx video cards. The folks at SilenX have made a GPU cooler that not only cools well, but fits both Nvidia's 2xxGTX series of cards and ATI's HD4870 GPU's."   Posted by jim on Friday, January 02 @ 19:26:37 PST (3 reads)   Legit Reviews Two For OneECS X58B-A Black Edition Motherboard "The ECS X58B-A Black Edition motherboard was incredibly stable through all the testing, something to be expected from a major OEM manufacturer where stability is critical. Overclocking stability was also impressive with a 185MHz base clock achieved when I was expecting no overclock. Add in the inclusion of ICH10R, SLI and CrossFire support, and 6 DIMM slots and you've got a well equipped motherboard..." Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case "The Cooler Master ATSC 840 is an enthusiast-level case that may be large in stature but is also equally large in features, quality and usability. If you are in the market for a new case for your Christmas hardware goodies, I highly recommend giving this case serious consideration..."   Posted by jim on Thursday, January 01 @ 20:25:42 PST (6 reads)   OC Modshop Two For OnenMedia 1000B HTPC Case "If you've made the decision to upgrade your life to include a Home Theater PC, then one of the biggest decisions you can make is the case you choose. Within the past few years there have been many cases vying for your living room, and their features vary as much as the internal builds. One case that looks like a worthy contender is nMedia PC's 1000B HTPC Case. Not only does this case have a ton of media features, but it has also been selected as the standard case for several HTPC OEMs like AMD's Maui HTPC." 2008 Year In Review "2008 was an interesting year for OCModShop. We were affected with all the highs and lows that others experienced this year, which was primarially due to the sucky economy in 2008 (thank you for the hard work, Mr. Bush). We've managed to hang in there, but believe me when I tell you that all technology websites earned their keep this year. Sponsors aren't so willing to supply products when they have a limited marketing budget."   Posted by jim on Thursday, January 01 @ 20:20:55 PST (4 reads)   Motherboards Two For OneECS X58B-A Black Series MB "The ECS X58B-A Black Series motherboard is available online for a price of only $260. This compares favorably in the price department to other X58 motherboards which have a heftier premium. As we move into 2009 we will likely see the prices of these motherboards reach a more mainstream level allowing more people to use them. ECS has been trying to make their way back into the enthusiasts mindset for the last few years and have succeeded wonderfully with the ECS X58B-A Black Series motherboard as it has all of the features of the competition with the noticeable exception of supporting three way or more SLI or Crossfire as the board only has two PCI Express x16 slots limiting you to two-way SLI or Crossfire. Not a big difference considering all the other great features of his board. I give A Hot Product Award as it does excel in a few key areas to the enthusiast user." Gigabyte EX58-Extreme MB "Gigabyte now joins the other motherboard manufacturers on the planet with their own special branding of their X58 chipset motherboard. Features like Hybrid SilentPower 2, Dynamic Energy Saving and EasyTune 6 set the EX58 Extreme apart from other motherboards on the market that are using the same chipset. The EX58-Extreme motherboard overclocked to nearly 4GHz, the second highest we've seen from an X58 motherboard so far. Gigabyte's board is worthy of a Hot Product award with only the fact that it didn't overclock as high as the fastest board we have tested keeps it from getting the Editor's Choice award."   Posted by jim on Thursday, January 01 @ 20:04:43 PST (6 reads)   Top 10 Wacky USA Laws"From changing the color of baby chicks to shooting effigies to properly honoring the glory of the log cabin, Americans have spent valuable legislative hours throughout the years making sure we're on the straight and narrow.
